About Us
Founded in November 2021 by Alex Marfleet, Studiomarfleet is an architectural practice that brings a pragmatic approach to environmentally aware design and enjoys leveraging current technology.
Alex’s experience spans over 25 years of Architectural practice, working within various commercial practices. Beginning in the Caribbean, moving on through London and finally taking root in Melbourne Australia.
“I believe to be a good designer you require three essential character traits, humility, empathy and courage.”
With a love of both creative space-making and design technology he enjoys seeking simple solutions to complex questions. He also enjoys programming and wrangling AI networks (using a chair and whip).
Notorious for a salty sense of humour and a lack of deference he spends his spare time with family, figuring out how to combine fun with work and bothering guitars.
Based out of Footscray, on the banks of the glittering Maribyrnong he is a proud resident of the western suburbs.
Beyond this - mostly harmless.
On Sustainability:
“When you start from the premise that the most environmentally friendly thing you could do on a piece of land would be to not build anything at all and encourage nature to reclaim it; everything you do after that comes from a position of respect and reverence. The challenge becomes - how can what you create on this sacred patch of earth contribute, support and enhance the environment?”
